The Official Sport of An Achievable Dream
An Achievable Dream began as a tennis and educational summer camp, and tennis remains an important component of our program. All students begin lessons in 3rd grade and continue through high school. The tennis program focuses on building self-esteem and social skills. Students learn the tools they need to succeed and excel in both tennis and life: discipline, perseverance, confidence, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Tennis helps students prepare to rely on themselves to make crucial decisions and promotes physical fitness concepts.
Dreamers playing on the high school tennis team are annually ranked among the top in the district and regional tennis arena. Many AAD graduates attend college on tennis scholarships. AAD is the largest National Junior Tennis League in Virginia and one of the largest in the country and participates in numerous United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior tennis tournaments throughout the region.
Tennis is a sport that AAD students can play for the rest of their lives, one that opens doors to social and business contacts far from the world of the inner city. Contacts made and skills learned through tennis extend during college and beyond.
